As a native Texan, I looove a refreshing Marg. As a functional health dietitian, I love feeling great… and if i’m being completelyyy honest, sometimes my love of margs gets in the way of that. I can’t be the only one, right? After several iterations, I think we’ve finally struck gold with this refreshing Zero Proof Spicy Marg.
Whether you find yourself on a sober curious journey, have given up alcohol for good, or just want a better option now and then, you need this refreshing marg. Picture the perfect balance of zesty lime, spicy jalapenos, and a hint of sweet agave shaken to perfection. All the flavor you’re after, minus the hangover.
So let’s break it down, shall we?
- Burst of fresh citrus: We start with freshly squeezed lime juice because, let’s be real, nothing beats that citrus zing. You may be able to get away with store bought juice for regular margs, but since we don’t have the strong flavor of tequila, I really do think it’s worth the fresh squeeze. Your grocery store may sell freshly squeezed lime juice (I get mine at Central Market) and I find that works great too!
- Jalapeño pop: The secret to any good mocktail is an unexpected kick- and in this case I think it’s truly necessary to replace the bite of tequila. You can play it as safe or as bold as you want here, but the jalapeño really is what takes this drink from limeade to zero proof marg!
- Agave: the perfect touch of sweetness to balance out our jalapeño kick, pull in the saltiness, and give us the classic taste of a true margarita.
- Tajin Rim: Every Texan knows the best margaritas come with a tajin rim. This is technically optional, but you won’t want to skip it! Salty and zingy, tajin rounds out all of the flavors and adds a festive touch.
Are you sold by now? Because if not, that first refreshing sip is sure to pull you in. Cheers, yall!
